RESIDENTS are being asked to save money by returning their Electoral Registration forms.

The forms lists everyone who will be living in the area on October 15, 2006, and who will be eligible to vote.

Cherwell District Council is urging residents to complete and return their forms without delay.

Council spokesman Tony Eccleston said: "The council is required by law to visit every household that fails to return its form. This adds costs to the service, and is money that could be saved if everyone returned their forms promptly." The register is compiled for electoral purposes, but it is also used by banks, building societies, and mobile phone companies for credit referencing, so residents may have credit refused if they are not registered. Residents who do not return the form might not be able to vote in future elections.

It is a legal requirement to fill in the form and send it back even if residents do not want to vote. This year everyone must state their nationality on the form.
