HIGHWAYS managers are planning to solve problems at two Banbury junctions where there have been accidents involving lorries.

The A422, Ruscote Avenue, is a busy road linking Warwick Road to the west, and Southam Road to the east, with the M40 beyond.

The route is used by many heavy goods vehicles in connection with their business on the Beaumont Road Industrial Estate and Kraft Foods.

Fast-moving traffic on Ruscote Avenue and the long straight approach make these junctions hazardous for heavy vehicles.

The council aims to reduce the existing accident rate at the Beaumont Road junction and at Kraft Foods by outlawing the right turn out of Beaumont Road and also Kraft's adjacent entrance into the main road, the A422.

David Robertson, cabinet member for transport, said: "The accident record at these junctions means there is a clear case for banning right turns into the A422, which will simplify the number of vehicle movements. However, no final action will be taken until people have been given their chance to have their say."

This is the second stage of consultation on this proposal with the draft order published.

The county council will continue to consider any objections and representations received in response to the proposal.
