VEHICLES were set alight in arson attacks in the Banbury area.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after two vans were set alight about 10.45pm last Tuesday night in Beaumont Business Centre which also caused damage to three industrial units.
At about the same time, a delivery van, parked at Helibeds, in the Southam Road, was set alight.
Just after midnight on Monday a works van was also set alight in the parking area in West Bar.
Det Sgt Ian Hunter, investigating these incidents, said: "These four incidents are the first vehicle fires we have had in the Banbury area for some weeks. However there has been a notable rise in arson offences with a For Sale'' sign set alight in Courtington Lane, Bloxham, on Monday and a straw fire in Chipping Warden on Sunday.
"These incidents have caused substantial damage and could very easily have become much more serious, putting people and their homes and businesses at risk. I ask the community to think if they saw anything at all that could assist in our investigation. We are also keen to hear from people who may have information on the offender or offenders."
Officers are working closely with the fire brigade and a joint protocol has been devised to ensure all incidents are attended by both services and intelligence shared.
If you see someone acting suspiciously or you have any information about arsons you can call Det Sgt Hunter via 0845 8 505 505. If you do not want to talk to police and do not want to give your name, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
