Sibford School pupils have been celebrating after it was awarded a prestigious Green Flag in recognition of its commitment to helping the environment.

The Eco-Schools Green Flag is presented to schools that can demonstrate excellence in the field of environmental activity.

Angy Bovill, Sibford’s eco-school co-ordinator, said: “Our students have been working very hard to ensure that the school is commitment to a greener way of living. This is a highly sought after award and we are delighted to become one of just 30 schools in Oxfordshire entitled to fly the flag.”

Environmental campaigns across the school include recycling paper, ink cartridges and old computer equipment, swapping to low-energy light bulbs, launching a ‘switch-off’ campaign for lights and electrical goods; and encouraging car sharing.

The school also has a conservation area growing organic vegetables and recycling food waste into compost.
