DAYS after the catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti, Brackley’s Rotary club stepped in to do its bit for the disaster effort.
Members immediately paid for a ShelterBox — basically a tough green plastic box containing a ten-person tent and other equipment that will enable a family of ten to survive for at least six months.
A complete box and contents costs £490.
David Connolly, the club’s international committee chairman, said: “The recent stories of homeless people in Haiti have appalled us all.
“We want to be part of the response and ShelterBox is an ideal way to get disaster relief aid to where it counts, using the strength of the worldwide Rotary organisation.
“We have supported ShelterBox in recent years and a further donation was an obvious route to support the relief work in Haiti.
“ShelterBox is a disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide.”
ShelterBox, a charity supported globally by the rotary club, got a team into Port-au-Prince last Thursday and hope to be able to distribute almost 2,000 boxes in the coming days and weeks.
Anyone who would like to make a donation can view shelterbox.org or call Mr Connolly on 01280 702570.
