An iconic road race is set to make a return.

The 12-mile Woodstock road race will be back after a three-year hiatus.

The race, which takes place through the parkland of Blenheim Palace, was cancelled in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and in 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In 2023, the race was shortened to eight miles due to a heatwave.

Woodstock Harriers chairman, Neil Preddy, said: "We’re delighted we’re back to the full 12 miles - it’s a unique race and there are not many courses of this length, beauty and undulating landscapes like this in the UK.

"Demand is high but there are still places available so if you want to take part in the UK’s grandest dash, sign up now."

Harriers runner, Lucy Dunn, said: "These are not many courses as beautiful as the 12 - you’ll pass ancient oaks, hidden lakes, a few mediaeval bees nests and the odd pheasant.

"It’s a stunning run and the hills make it a half-marathon in terms of effort - so it’s fabulous prep if you’re doing a marathon in the autumn."

Runners will receive a free day pass to the grounds, and finishers will receive a free beer.

Just 100 spaces remain on the run, so potential athletes are advised to act quickly.

The race will take place on Saturday, October 5.
