PEOPLE living in Oxford are urged to take part in a consultation on Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, which is closing next week.

The initiative, which has seen roads in East Oxford blocked off at one end as part of a trial, has been up for consultation since May, and residents have until November 30 to give their views.

The authority said it chose East Oxford as a trial area for the scheme as it has a high population of young families and a mix of primary and secondary schools, as well as a large number of children travelling to schools in other parts of the city and outside the city.

The area also has direct links to the city centre and to the southern bypass, both attracting a much higher level of traffic and contributing to slightly poorer air quality than some other areas of the city.

Last week, the council decided to spend £100,000 to replace the plastic bollards in East Oxford with steel ones after ‘unprecedented levels of vandalism’.
