Oxford City moved up to third in Vanarama National League South with a terrific 4-0 win at Hemel Hempstead Town, WRITES GEORGE RICKWOOD.
Joe Iaciofano’s early double gave the visitors a two-goal lead, before Jacob Bancroft and Lewis Coyle put the shine on an excellent result late on.
Iaciofano has scored in each of City’s last four games – always in the first half – and he made it another explosive start with an excellent solo effort.
The striker used his power to hold off several challenges and finish into the far corner.
If his fourth goal of the season was more of an individual effort, his fifth was excellent team play.
Iaciofano and Nana Owusu combined brilliantly on the right, before the former got into the box to sweep home the winger’s cross with just seven minutes on the clock.
Josh Ashby then rattled the crossbar following good work from Owusu, while Zac McEachran’s effort was parried to Elliot Benyon but his celebrations were cut short by the linesman’s flag.
Hemel somewhat stemmed the flow in the second period, but City regained control as the hosts tired.
Bancroft’s pace caused real issues and a Coyle through ball sent the substitute away for the third goal on 87 minutes, finding the top corner with aplomb.
Bancroft turned provider for the fourth as he raced through again, this time cutting it back to Coyle as the visitors made it four games unbeaten.
Banbury United beat Nuneaton Borough 1-0 in Pitching In Southern League Premier Central to extend their unbeaten run to 13 matches, the joint-best in their history.
They had to work hard for the three points, despite Nuneaton’s Carl Baker being sent off for two yellow cards midway through the first half.
Premier Central’s bottom side hit the woodwork before the break, but Banbury finally found a way through when Chris Wreh slotted home with 14 minutes left.
The Puritans are fourth in the table, but have two games on hand on the teams above them and are just seven points off leaders Peterborough Sports.
Wantage Town lost 3-0 at AFC Dunstable in Division 1 Central, while Thame United were the only county side to go through in the Buildbase FA Trophy.
Ryan Blake, Greg Hackett and Lynton Goss scored in their 3-0 second qualifying round win over Lymington Town.
Didcot Town lost 5-1 to visitors Frome Town, Noah Alabi on target, while Kidlington were beaten by the same scoreline at Cirencester Town.
Early goals from Jordan Thomas and Wesley Jodo put North Leigh 2-0 up against Binfield, but they were pegged back to 2-2 and lost 4-1 on penalties.
