Headington School’s First XI hockey team was crowned the best U18 hockey team around Oxfordshire after winning the U18s Oxfordshire County Cup on Monday the 7th, of this month. 

They competed with six other schools: Oxford High, Magdalen College, St Edwards, Tudor Hall, The Oratory and Cokethorpe School, and won five out of six matches. Despite the early Monday morning travelling down to the Oxford Hawks Club, they were still able to take on the challenges.

There were six short matches, each 16 minutes long one way. Winning the first game of the day against MCS with a 1-0 win; they won the second game against St Edward’s with a 1-0 win again. The third game was a loss to Oxford High School, with a 2-0 loss. The team had a long break and were all a little drowsy and their spirits were a bit low but after the game, they were able to pull themselves together nonetheless and gain a 2-1 win against Tudor Hall. 

for the last game of the day, they were able to obtain a 1-0 win against Cokethorpe with some short corner routines scoring their goals. 

Having supportive coaches is also a crucial part of having successful games, Trin ST JOHN COX, the Vice Captain of the team said:

The coaches, Mr Williams and Miss Horlock really are a testament to our success bringing positivity and loads of energy to training even early on a Monday morning!”

Well done to the brilliant teams that played in the County Cup showing a lot of passion in the games, and specifically to Headington for this very honourable achievement!
