OXFORD United are still in talks to bring back two of their loan players from last season.
U’s boss Karl Robinson is in touch with Everton’s Luke Garbutt and Watford’s Jerome Sinclair about the possibility of their return for the 2019/20 campaign.
The duo impressed towards the end of last season as United finished strongly to move away from the drop zone and secure 12th place, thanks to 27 points from their final 13 games.
Alex Rodriguez Gorrin is United’s only senior summer signing so far, but Robinson has confirmed there is still interest in Garbutt and Sinclair.
“We’re still speaking to Garbs and his parent club,” said the U’s boss.
“And we’re still speaking to Jerome, so that’s where we’re at.”
Loan deals for players contracted to Premier League sides are usually finalised late in the summer, with targets often spending pre-season with their parent clubs.
But when asked if United would have to wait longer for the duo, Robinson said: “No. I imagine we will have answers soon.”
Striker Sinclair, 22, was a January signing and produced a number of combative performances during his six-month loan spell from Watford, netting four goals in 16 games.
Garbutt struggled initially after joining on loan as a left-back.
But the 26-year-old produced a string of impressive performances on the wing, scoring three goals in United’s final five games of the campaign.
And when talking about his three players behind the striker, Garbutt is one of Robinson’s top targets for this season.
He said: “Hally (Rob Hall) can play out wide or as a ten, Sykesy (Mark Sykes) can play there, we’ve got James Henry in there as well.
“We’ve also got Gavin (Whyte) on the right, so we probably need another one or two on the left.
“We would be looking for a left-footed player, ideally we’ll bring Garbs back.”
