OXFORD United could be joined by an extra team in the Sky Bet League One relegation battle today.

Among the topics to be discussed at the English Football League's meeting is whether to inflict a 12-point deduction on Blackpool.

It comes after a receiver was appointed last month to take charge of the Tangerines, forcing owner Owen Oyston to pay former director Valeri Belokon £25m.

While a 12-point penalty is not automatic, the maximum penalty would see Blackpool - who beat Accrington Stanley 2-1 last night - go from the fringes of the play-off battle to just two points clear of the bottom four.

They would drop ten places to 18th - ahead of Oxford United on goal difference.

In an open letter published last month, Shaun Harvey, the EFL's chief executive, wrote: "It is not mandatory that the 12 point sanction MUST be applied but the circumstances of the appointment of the receiver need to be fully considered and the appropriate decision taken in accordance with the regulations.

"The board will need to consider, for example, whether the period of receivership delivers any reduction in the level of debt at the club that is not available to another club outside an insolvency process, and if the competitive balance of the division is impacted as a result of the appointment of the receiver."
