Abingdon Vale’s Emily Ford posted the fastest long course (50m) butterfly swim for a British 12-year-old girl when competing in the South Zonal Championships at London Aquatic’s Olympic Pool in Stratford.

Ford collected the 14 & under gold medal with her record time of 28.93secs in the final.

She also qualified for April’s British Championships in the 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke.

Abingdon’s Caitlin Wheatley, 17, struck gold in the 100m butterfly after claiming silver in the 200m event.

Niall O’Leary, 18, took silver in the men’s 100m backstroke and also claimed a first and third ranking in the 200m and 50m back respectively.

Ellie Nutt, 16, achieved the finals for both the 15 & over 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke, while Yasmin Tajalli, 13, qualified for the British Championships in the 14 & under 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle.

Bicester Blue Fins’ Kieran Bird claimed a medal treble.

He struck gold in the 16 & under 200m butterfly, touching home in 2.09.62 and then took bronze medals in the 100m butterfly in 59.40 and 1500m freestyle (17mins 2.16secs).

Clubmate Tom Thornley, also 15, won silver in the 200m backstroke.
