OFA SAM WATERS CUP
AFC Jericho went close to shocking favourites Kings Arms, Wheatley in the only OFA Sam Waters Cup third-round tie to beat the big freeze, writes TIM SIRET.
Autotype UTV League Premier Division side Kings Arms eventually triumphed 3-2 against their Division 2 opponents thanks to Luke Cuff’s late winner.
But this was not before Jericho had given them a real scare by battling back from 2-0 down.
Things went to plan at the start as winger Jay Hill found Cuff, who gave Kings Arms a deserved lead.
Soon after the break, top scorer Neil Lockhart delivered an unstoppable 20-yard drive, that hugged the ground as it flew in the net.
But Jericho struck back and eventually squared this pulsating tie.
First, Dan New ran though on his own and slotted past the despairing Wheatley keeper.
New then turned provider as he set up Daniel Godfrey for an equaliser at the back post.
Wheatley can only blame themselves for almost blowing it, as they missed several chances.
But with just ten minutes to go, Cuff won it for them.
Kings Arms will face Rover Cowley or Donnington in the quarter-finals.
