Adam Simmonds’s brace helped Kings Arms Wheatley defeat Division 3A title favourites AFC Woodfarm 4-2 in a tense Devenney Cup final, writes TIM SIRET.
The teams were locked at one apiece at the break, Simmonds tucking away James Luckett’s flick, to open the scoring.
Woodfarm equalised when man-of-the-match, Wheatley’s Shaun Pearce, miss hit a clearance and Drew Fowler poun-ced to level.
Pearce made amends in the second half when his long pass over the Woodfarm defence was finished off by Jay Hill.
There were chances at both ends, but Woodfarm keeper Tom Gillett was busier than his counter part Steve Skyrme.
Simmonds then set up Hill to make it look like a certain win for Wheatley.
But near the end, Paul Alder was fouled in the box and Fowler made no mistake from the spot, to make it 3-2.
Luckett received his second yellow and his marching orders for a foul, but Simmonds made sure of the silverware for Wheatley after scoring at the third attempt.
