Kennington United gained the first part of a likely double when they beat Wallingford Wanderers 2-0 to win the Autotype UTV League's Ridgeway Cup final at Abingdon United, writes Tim Siret.
A goal in each half beat off stubborn resistance from Division 3B rivals Wanderers, who are the only side able to stop Kennington completing a memorable season with the league title.
They took the lead just before half-time when defender Dan Haggie launched a long throw which fell to Andy Dyer, who smashed the ball home to give Wanderers keeper Matt Carter no chance.
In the second half, Kennington keeper Matty Hutton saved well from Mickey Woods, before the second goal sealed the contest.
Sam Childs's run into the box caused Wallingford problems and Kennington appealed for a penalty.
Referee Pete Forester rightly played advantage and Carter's clearance rebounded off Childs and nestled in the back of the net.
