Two goals by Leon Nikitenko brought Mansfield Road a shock 2-1 victory against Barton United in the Martson's Oxford Sunday League's President's Cup semi-final, writes GEOFF BOWER.
Fielding their strongest team of the season, Mansfield Road had several clear-cut chances before Bruno Versailles's run allowed Nikitenko to tap-in from close range in the 15th minute.
Premier Division leaders Barton made two substitutions to bolster their defence, but to little avail as a neat back-post header by Nikitenko five minutes after the break doubled their lead.
Against the run of play, Liam O'Callaghan pulled a goal back for Barton with a low, deflected shot from outside the penalty area, but Mansfield Road held on.
Now they face Oxford Yellows in the final at Oxford City on Sunday, April 27, after they brushed aside Highfield 4-1.
Yellows were 2-1 up at the break thanks to a 30-yard strike from David Jennings and a goal from captain Rocky Whiting.
In the second half, a sublime lob from Ronnie Kababwe and a great individual effort from Jennings, who beat five players before rounding the keeper to score, sealed victory.
In the Premier Division, Star Wanderers pipped Riverside 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.
Star took the lead on the half-hour through John Crump, and Dan Taylor thumped the second into the top left corner.
Ten minutes into the second period, Peter Higgins looked to have made the game safe for Star, but Riverside pulled one back when Ben Green broke through Star's defence.
Star responded and five minutes later James Reeve challenged the Riverside keeper, and a lucky break saw the ball run free, allowing him to tap into an empty net.
Green snatched a second goal for the visitors and Mark Johnson netted their third, but it was all too late.
In Division 1, Nick Skiller grabbed a four-timer in Chalgrove's 6-1 demolition of AFC Watlington.
An own goal and Simon Godfrey completed Chalgrove's tally.
AFC Boudika edged out Yellow Eagles 2-1. Phil Walsh and an own goal were on the scoresheet for Boudika, with Thom Airs replying.
