AARON Burgess took victory at the Cumnor Royal British Legion 5k.
The Oxford City AC runner finished in 16mins 35mins, beating Abingdon AC’s Les Newell by three seconds, with Witney RR’s Matt Lock third.
It proved to be a good day for Abingdon, who had five runners inside the top 11.
Among them was Isabelle Martin, who broke the club’s women’s record over the distance when finishing in 18.36 for eighth place.
Clubmates Simon Fisher, Connor Morgan and John Owens were sixth, tenth and 11th respectively.
Witney’s Brian Moore (vet 55), Melanie Cassidy (vet 40) and Jim Whelan (vet 60) topped their age categories.
Meanwhile, Abingdon’s Paul Fernandez tasted victory in the gruelling South Wales 50-mile challenge from Brecon to Cardiff, triumphing in 10hrs 29mins.
Clubmate Melissa Venables was the second lady home in 12.14.00.
Elsewhere, White Horse Harriers’ Paul Jegou came third and first vet 40 at the Kingham 10K.
Thame Runners’ Faye Sharpley was the first female home at the Long Crendon Steeple to Steeple Challenge.
Meanwhile, Bicester finished third in their final Division 1C match of the Midland North East UK Development League at Tamworth.
Samuel Rayson won the under 15 boys’ 80m hurdles and high jump as well as finishing second in the long jump.
Joshua Smith, competing in only his third javelin competition, achieved a national grade 4 throw of 22.47m for the runners-up spot in the under 13 event.
In the under 15 girls’ competition, Anna Jolliffe ran a personal best 5mins 13.9secs – also a national grade 4 effort – to finish second in the 1,500m.
Freya McGinlay made it a hat-trick of grade 4 marks as she came third in the hammer with 24.55m.
Meanwhile, Jack Green and Alexa Brady enjoyed success at the Quadkids competition at Horspath.
Competing in the under 11 boys’, Green took gold, setting a personal best of 3.74m in the long jump along the way.
Brady won bronze in the under nine girls’ event.
Elsewhere, Alchester AC’s Caroline Kerr topped the vet 50 category at the Chippenham 10k. Robert Kerr was the second vet 60.
Alchester’s Graham Hill took on the Endure 24 at Reading, completing 16 loops of a five-mile circuit to clock up 80 miles.
Sophie Dale, running as part of a team, completed four laps.
Emma Wilcox took on the Race to the King ove the South Downs, completing the 53-mil ultra in 16hrs 13mins.
