HEADINGTON RR and Eynsham RR battled it out for top Oxfordshire club at the Ridgeway Relay.

Forty-four teams took on the ten-leg event from Ivinghoe Beacon to Marlborough.

And after more than ten hours of running, seven seconds separated the duo.

Headington’s Open team finished fourth in 10hrs 33mins 55secs, just ahead of Eynsham A.

White Horse Harriers’ Throughbreds side were a further eight minutes behind in seventh, while Headington’s other team – Vets ­– crossed tenth.

Witney RR put up a great performance to finish 14th – despite being a man short.

Tony Lock had an accident the night before, meaning Witney were last after the first leg.

However, both Sam Upton and Steve Young were the quickest runners on their leg and James Currah second fastest on his as they climbed the field.

Alchester AC’s red team finished 17th, with their white and blue sides 20th and 25th respectively.

White Horse Harriers boasted the second fastest ladies team in WHH Amazons.

Meanwhile, Alchester’s Richard Francis was tenth in the Brackley 10k Chicken Run.

Clubmate Nicola Lawrence was the first lady home at the Stowe Summer Series Trail 12k run.

Jonathan White was fifth in the 6k event.

Abingdon AC’s Julian Moore came fifth in the 100-mile solo male category at the Endure 24 hour race.

Bicester Tri fielded two teams, with Odds and Sods 37th and Bychester Tryers 74th.

Elsewhere, Abingdon finished fifth in the latest round of the Midland League in Birmingham.
