Kevin McGurk had a debut to forget for Oxford City Stars after the netminder was taken off during his side's crushing 12-2 defeat at leaders Streatham Redskins.
The Stars bench decided to withdraw the keeper with 11 minutes to go in the second period after some shocking defending left McGurk facing an onslaught from the hosts.
Yet things had all started so well for Stars as Jacob Smith set-up Alan Green in the second minute to fire the visitors in front.
That silenced the home crowd, but after 15 minutes they came alive when Craig Metcalf and Rich Hardy combined to equalise.
A minute later, Metcalf fired Redskins in front.
Stars were forced to play the last minute of the opening period with just three men after Luke Plasted and Darren Elliott were both handed two-minute penalties.
They came just four seconds away from surviving the powerplay, only for Redskins' Wayne Trunchion to put his side 3-1 ahead.
Things got no better for Stars - and in particular for McGurk - at the start of the second period.
The hosts made it 4-1 within a minute of the restart on a powerplay, and then less than 60 seconds later Dean Francis was sin-binned for two minutes.
Darren Elliott was also handed a two-penalty penalty, as well as a ten minute misconduct charge.
This left McGurk completely exposed, and there was little he could do to stop the onslaught.
Four quickfire goals made it 8-1, and it was at this point the Stars bench decided to save their keeper, and withdrew McGurk.
Although still not 100 per cent, James Skaife took over between the posts.
He could do little to stop the flow of Redskins attacks, and they added to their tally.
McGurk came back on for the final ten minutes and saved five shots to at least end the match on a high.
Oxford continued to battle and scored their second of the game with the last touch when Marlon Williams made it 12-2.
