South West 1 East
MISSED opportunities cost Witney victory as they lost 12-7 at home to Reading.
It took a late try from full back James Monks, converted by fly half Henry Lamb, to earn Witney a losing bonus point, despite having most of the possession and territory.
The hosts dominated the first 20 minutes, but poor passing and decision making meant they had nothing to show for it.
Plenty of good lineout ball came from flankers Tim Muller and Carl Campbell, but at least four clear-cut chances went begging. Reading scored with their first attack when fly half Rob Sweeney put centre Alex Dorliac away to dummy his way through.
Witney used the wind to maintain their dominance after the break without success and Lamb missed two penalties.
Reading had full back Andrew Tweedie sin-binned as their penalty count increased.
But No 8 Jamie Guttridge bagged their second try on 75 minutes, with Sweeney converting.
