Manager Mike Ford was delighted that his Oxford City players were rewarded for their efforts with a resounding 5-0 victory against Workington in Blue Square Bet North, writes JACK JOHNSON.
“I’m just really pleased for them, pleased that they got their rewards,” he said.
“It didn’t flatter us. I thought some aspects of our game were exceptional without really opening the opposition up, but we were ruthless in our approach.”
Ford was also pleased that three of his strikers were on the scoresheet.
“The strikers haven’t, goals wise, contributed as they should, but they have today.
“They contribute in other ways and I’m pleased with them as I’m pleased with all the squad as they’ve been outstanding,” he added.
Striker Steve Basham, who returned to the squad after a groin injury to score twice, added: “It was 5-0 at the end of the day because they collapsed a little bit towards the end.
“But that’s football and you’ve still got to turn up and put the work in and you turn a tough game in to a good result. If you look at it, it was quite comfortable at the end.
“We just want to concentrate on ourselves, keep putting the points on the board and see how it develops.”
