JAKE Wright is relishing the chance to come up against npower League Two’s most dangerous striker tonight.
The U’s skipper is back after recovering from a minor knee injury last week and will need to be at his best against Port Vale striker Tom Pope.
The 27-year-old had not been prolific until this season, when he has bagged 12 goals in 14 games, with ten coming in his last eight appearances.
Wright is looking forward to the battle and is hoping to repeat his performance from last weekend, when Gillingham front man Danny Kedwell was kept quiet in a 0-0 draw at the Kassam Stadium.
He said: “(Pope’s) flying at the moment, I’ve played against him a few times.
“He’s a big boy and a handful, but it’s going to be an interesting battle.
“Gillingham had Kedwell and he was a similar player – hopefully I can keep Pope quiet like him and we can get another clean sheet.”
The goalless draw with league leaders Gillingham has given Wright confidence of taking at least a point from another of the division’s top sides.
He said: “I think they’re probably the best team in the league at the moment.
“They’re playing really well, but Gillingham were the form team when they came to us and we did very well against them.
“We’ll go there trying to win the game, but if we can’t do that then we’ll make sure we don’t get beaten, so we can carry on this little run to make it four games.”
