Following the sudden resignation of Oxford City manager Andy Lyne, his assistant Justin Merritt will be in charge of tonight's Southern League Errea Cup second-round tie away to Taunton Town.

Lyne quit after City's 2-0 defeat at Beaconsfield on Saturday, but will be staying on as director of football, looking after all the club's teams.

City secretary John Shepperd said: "Andy's resignation came as a bit of a surprise, but he was not going to the Taunton game anyway, because of work commitements.

"So it should not cause too much disruption."

Shepperd indicated that the new manager should be in place in time for Saturday's game at home to Hillingdon.

Merritt (pictured), who also plays, will be in charge of a team missing Adam Durrant and Omar Takriti, while youngster Aaron Williams has been added to the squad.
