Rover Oxford maintained their Women's South Clubs League Division 1 unbeaten record - but produced a below-par performance in their 1-0 win over Southgate.

Rover started well, and took the lead with their first penalty corner of the game.

Strong attacking play forced the error, and Rebecca Demczak took full advantage, slamming the short corner home to put her side in front.

However, Rover's usual pace and vitality were lacking and the pace of the game dropped off.

Jess Rickman, Rover's best player, created many chances for her side after the break, but no-one was able to convert.

However, they comfortably held on to stay top.

Oxford Hawks climbed to third in the table after seeing off Reading 1A 4-2.

They took the lead after just four minutes when Emma Batten converted a long Henri Coles pass.

Alex Baird doubled the lead with a classy strike from a penalty corner, before Coles set up Hannah Williamson to make it 3-0.

With good play by Anna Sargent and Janet Graham, Reading were given no opportunities to get back into the game in the opening period.

However, they came out with all guns blazing after half-time, and scored two quick goals to change the complexion of the match.

This provided the wake-up call Hawks needed though.

After creating many chances, they finally made sure of the points in the final minute when Fi Walton's shot was saved and Baird converted the follow-up.

West Witney slumped to an 8-1 defeat to Maidenhead in Division 2.

Despite starting well and creating several openings in the first five minutes, Witney could not find the all-important breakthrough.

They trailed 3-0 at half-time, and although Sandie Anderson netted after the break, Maidenhead scored a further five goals to run out convincing winners.

Witney have now conceded 18 goals in their last two games.
