Pete Foley resigned as Ardley United manager after Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Sport Italia Hellenic League Premier Division strugglers Harrow Hill.
The Oxford United legend, who has also managed Didcot Town, Oxford City, Marlow and Brackley Town, said that after 20 years in management, he wished to retire from the game and spend more time with his family.
Ardley's defeat on Saturday was exacerbated by the dismissal of Foley's son, Tom, for violent conduct.
Pete Foley said: "I was disappointed with the referee on Saturday, but it's not the reason I've quit.
"Before Saturday, I had felt I'd taken the players as far as I could."
Ardley have appointed Dan Still, who was assistant to Foley until his resignation a month ago, as the new manager.
