BICESTER’S Chris Wigmore lines up in the Wales Rally GB National, which takes place from next Thursday to Sunday.

He teams up with Brackley’s Steve Lyons to race their recently-restored 1980 Ford Escort in the event for amateur drivers, which runs alongside the British leg of the World Rally Championship.

Wigmore, who won the 2010 Viking Escort Challenge, and Lyons have nearly 60 years of rallying experience between them, and will be looking to put it to good use in the B3 class.

Their car has a newly-fitted Honda S2000 engine and gearbox, which they hope will hold them in good stead.

Sébastien Loeb, winner of the last eight world championships, heads the entry list for the main event in his Citroen Total WRT car.

Ford’s Jari-Matti Latvala defends his Wales Rally title.
