Division 2

TWYFORD will play in Division 1 for the first time next summer and will go up as champions if they pick up one point from this weekend’s trip to Challow & Childrey.

On Saturday, they walloped Wolverton by 89 runs after Zawar Hussain (84), Bilal Afzal (52) and Tanveer Nadeem (44) batted well in their 258 all out. Zahoor ur-Rehman took 5-73.

Town had a chance while Sean Potter (56) and Aky Hussain (45) were together, but Andrew Cook (4-31) and Afzal (3-58) dismissed them for 169.

Wolverton Town 8pts, Twyford 25

Tiddington are in pole position to join Twyford in the top flight after their gamble to declare on 207-4 against Sandford St Martin paid off.

Will Cooper’s classy 103 was supported by Will Goodman’s 37 before the hosts cut their innings short by two overs.

Sandford, already relegated, put up a fight through Neil Cox (41), Charles Beeson (37) and Ian Reynolds (31). But Phil Pykett took 3-27 and the final wicket fell off the fifth ball of Sandford’s second extra over as they were all out for 199.

Oxford 2nd may have blown their promotion chances after suffering a shock reverse at lowly Long Marston.

James Smith hit 65, but no received no support as Oxford were all out for 131. James Beesley took 5-32 and Simon McLeman collected 3-39.

Matt Wareham’s 62 ensured the hosts eased to 132-3.

Challow & Childrey also lost against one of the division’s strugglers and now their fate is out of their hands.

Aston Rowant 2nd posted 239-8, Andrew Tolson tonking 67 and Tom Needham 46, whileAdam Tucker took 6-90.

Tim Foster’s 6-30 helped dismiss Challow for 158 and leave Rowant knowing a win at Sandford will keep them up.

Abingdon Vale’s promotion chances are still flickering after they beat Oxford Downs 2nd, who could be going down.

Jordan Ford’s 52 helped the hosts to 162-9. Steve Roberts (3-29) and Johnny Law (3-36) kept things tight for Downs.

Simon Launder made 42 for Downs and Daryl Johnson 30, but Vale seamer Mike Cook (6-63) and left-arm spinner Paul White (4-22) bowled them out for 130.
