Oxford trainers, aware of the uncertainty of the future of the stadium, have given their backing to the Sandy Lane track.

The handlers, many of whom are long-serving members at Cowley, were unanimous in their support at a trainer’s meting called by racing manager Gary Baiden.

“They were informed of the current situation,” said Baiden.

“The trainers were all happy to stay under the current climate and I impressed on them how important it is to maintain the current BAGS contract.”

There have been as many as five approaches to join the training ranks, but most are waiting to see what will happen when the planning application is submitted.

IN-FORM trainer Dave Lee unearthed another good prospect in Special Phantom, who could reach open class after a debut spin of 27.15secs before racing at Oxford on Saturday.

Also back with a bang was Spencers Lad, clocking a fast 14.94 over two bends.

ADAMANT Yankee, a good servant to trainer Nick Carter, has been retired to his owners’ home.
