OXFORD & Bletchingdon Nondescripts CC chairman John Brown is off to Uganda later this month on a mission which involves developing cricket in the country.
Brown (pictured below) flies out on Saturday, September 22 after volunteering on a project for the charity Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB).
The initiative, which started earlier this year, is dedicated to helping, educating and developing local communities around the world through the spread and growth of cricket. CWB, of which former Oxfordshire cricketer Andy Hobbs, the ICC development programmes manager, is a trustee, also uses cricket as a tool in the fight against AIDS.
Brown, from Sutton, near Eynsham, who will be working in Lira, Gulu and Arua in northern Uganda, said: “I first heard about the charity at a chance conversation at a gathering at a friends.
“Having pretty much retired I was looking for an opportunity to volunteer on a project where I could utilise my perskills, in this case a level 2 coaching qualification and 40 years as an administrator in club cricket.”
He will cover his own expenses, but is also raising funds that will help meet the other costs of the project.
