OXFORD’S Hannah England will run through the pain barrier when she competes in the Zurich Diamond League meeting tonight.

The 25-year-old Oxford City athlete lines up in the 1,500m, looking to build on her fourth place in Sunday’s Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix.

England is still suffering the affects of the Achilles spike injury she picked up in May and which hampered her chances of making the Olympic final.

She said: “I’m still having to manage my injury and I’m still in pain every day, but the doctors have told me that’s OK and I can deal with it.”

Meanwhile, England’s fellow Oxford athlete, marathon runner Mara Yamauchi, has yet to decide on her future.

Yamauchi pulled out of the Olympic marathon in London with a heel injury after just 9.4km.

She said: “I am resting at the moment because of my foot injury which made me drop out of the Olympics.

“I haven’t decided what to do next – I need to get my foot better first and then decide.”

  • RADLEY’S Carolyn Plateau was delighted to run a personal best of 2mins 4.79secs in the On Camp with Kelly 800m at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old broke the 2.05-mark for the first time in finishing seventh.

“I couldn’t have done much better,” she said.

“I have been there or thereabouts all season and have known it was in my legs and it was great to dip under 2.05 it in such a prestigious meeting.”
