John Mills hit his second hat-trick in a week as North Leigh came out on top against Oxfordshire rivals Abingdon United in a goal-crazy Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West clash at Eynsham Park.

Mills, who also hit a treble at Cirencester Town last Tuesday, starred as North Leigh established a 4-0 lead, before Abingdon roared back to leave the hosts relieved to hear the final whistle.

He opened the scoring after 25 minutes when he raced on to a pass from Kieran Sanders to score.

And he doubled North Leigh’s advantage before the break, clipping a shot past Abingdon keeper James Foster from Stuart Hole’s terrific pass.

Mills completed his hat-trick three minutes after the break, knocking in a rebound after a Sanders shot was pushed out by Foster.

Two minutes later, North Leigh were 4-0 up when a Sanders cross to the far post was headed back across goal by Tom Franklin for Andy Caton to nod into an empty net from a yard out.

Abingdon pulled a goal backin the 54th minute with Luke Carnell beating keeper Sam Warrell to a free-kick to head home.

Four minutes later, Abingdon struck again when Stuart Young steered a left-wing cross past a stranded Warrell.

And Abingdon made it 4-3 in the 75th minute with Curtis Angell scoring a fabulous goal from an acute angle.

But North Leigh sealed victory seven minutes later when Michael Alexis smashed home his first goal for the club.
