Banbury United are still seeking their first win of season in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division after a goalless stalemate against Redditch United at the Spencer Stadium.

Redditch started the better and Connor Deards was allowed to run straight through, but shot wide.

Banbury keeper Tom Cross, signed yesterday from Stratford Town and making his debut with Matt Finlay injured, then had to be alert to save a snap shot from Will Richards, and he was called into action again to deny Mark Danks.

The Puritans came more into the game, and Ricky Johnson dragged a shot wide, before Adam Confue blasted over the bar.

Redditch again had the upper hand after the break.

David Bridgwater fired a long-range effort just wide, while Danks’s curler hit the far post with Cross beaten.

Liam Dolan did well to head a Danks cross out for a corner, while Deards headed another Danks centre wide.

Banbury mustered a couplpe of late efforts with Ben Polk having a shot deflected wide, before Adeyinka Talabi’s drive brought a save out of Niall Cooper.

Banbury Utd: Cross, Cray, Ashton, Dolman, Lee, Polk, Cole, Confue (Howell 75), Johnson (Lorraine 78), Talabi, Woodley (Da Costa 61). Subs not used: O’Grady, Kingston.

Attendance: 254.
