British No 1 Andy Murray says that Great Britain should reconsider their plans to hand Tim Henman (pictured) a Davis Cup recall.

Henman retired from Davis Cup in 2004, but is considering a comeback.

"If Tim wants to play I would love him to be in the team but this might be a good time for some of the young guys to step up and be counted," said Murray.

"That's ultimately what's going to have to happen in one or two years' time anyway, so why not start now? I don't see it as a step forward picking Tim."

John Lloyd, Britain's Davis Cup captain, is keen for Henman to play in the home tie against the Netherlands.

He tried to convince the British No 2 to return for last month's Euro-Africa Zone win over Ukraine but failed.

But the 32-year-old Henman, who is enjoying an upturn in fortunes after a dip in form, has said in the last few days that he is giving serious thought to playing again.

Yesterday, Henman eased into the second round of the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basle with a 6-2, 6-3 win over world No 65 Christophe Rochus.

Henman raced to a 3-0 lead before dropping serve.

But the 32-year-old re-established his advantage in a marathon sixth game and another break sealed the first set.

Henman broke Rochus again at 2-1 in the second set and eased through to victory. He now meets Stanislas Wawrinka.
