Oxford United want to make it into the top ten Conference attendances of all time.
And they are calling on fans to spread the word with a poster campaign across the city.
The U's have targeted the next home game against Aldershot Town on November 4 to pass the tenth best mark of 7,193 set when Colchester hosted Barrow in 1992.
United achieved the 19th highest Conference gate when 6,602 watched their clash with York City on September 30 and secretary Mick Brown is confident they can enter the top ten.
He said: "I've just looked at the sales for the two days since we've announced this and they have been the best so far for this stage before a match.
"The signs are that we are going to have our biggest home gate. Clearly we are going to have a good number of visiting fans as well.
"We are very optimistic and confident that our fans will rally round."
Supporters can download two posters from the club's official website to display where they think best to attract the extra numbers.
United's eight home games so far have resulted in the eight highest Conference gates of the season.
There is some way to go before they can challenge the Conference record of 9,432 set when Lincoln City hosted Wycombe Wanderers in 1988.
But Brown paid tribute to the support the U's have received this season.
He said: "It has been so busy that we've not really had the time to start marketing matches yet.
"And we realise that with two matches a week it has been a big drain on people's pockets.
"We have been absolutely delighted with home attendances so far.
"We feel it is the ideal time to see if we can push the crowd a little bit more and the signs so far are very good towards that.
"We realised at the start of the season that away ticket sales would be very much reduced.
"What we needed to do was increase the home tickets, not least because to get a good atmosphere in here helps the team perform.
"Everyone has got behind them and look what has happened."
Last night's FA Youth Cup third qualifying round tie away to Winchester was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. It will now be played on Tuesday, October 31.
