Hot-shot Yemi Odubade (pictured right)) says he wants a starting place at Oxford United after his run of goals.

The former Eastbourne Borough striker hit a brace in the U's 3-0 win at Cambridge last Friday, which took Jim Smith's men five points clear at the top of the Nationwide Conference.

It was only his second start of the season, and came about because Rob Duffy was handed a one-match ban.

The only other time Odubade has started for Oxford this campaign was the previous week when Steve Basham was injured.

Duffy is now back from suspension, but Odubade's form is no doubt giving Smith plenty to think about ahead of their visit to Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round on Saturday.

Odubade said: "I want to start. I don't want to be a superstar, but like every striker, or every player, I want to start and play 90 minutes.

"I just want to push my way into the starting line-up for every game.

"For Dagenham, hopefully I've given the manager a massive headache."

Smith has to perm two from three up front.

The difficulty is that whenever Basham is not playing, the team miss his ability to hold the ball up and his clever link-up play.

Yet Duffy and Odubade are undoubtedly the two who most look like finding the net "Six goals from two starts is all right as a scoring record!" said Odubade, who came off the bench to get the winner when ten-man Oxford United won 1-0 at Dagenham in the league in August.

He was pleased with the way he and Basham combined at the Abbey Stadium in a performance that sets the team up perfectly for their testing FA Cup tie.

"I know how Bash plays from last season and we always seem to do well together in training," he said. "We know our strengths and weaknesses and it showed at Cambridge that we can both play together.
