Terry Lester ended up soaked at the end of Kidlington'sGreen Road SC Open on the Oxford Canal at the Wise Alderman after going into the water to retrieve his pole which had been taken by a common carp of 23.14.0!
It goes without saying that Terry came out on top of the 11 matchmen, ending up with 26.7.0. He fished the pole and used a piece of corn on 2lb line to fool the carp which took 45 minutes to land, before switching to caster to tempt some bits.
Perch taken on the bomb and worm gave Bill Burnell second spot with 5.2.0, followed by Dave Britnell with 4.4.0 of roach.
A new series of matches kicked off with the Oxford Carp Winter League attracting 14 matchman over to Drayton Leasure which fished its head off.
Dave Hawkins emerged the winner with 105.8.0 of carp to 13.6.0 taken on pole and expander pellet.
Fishing corn down the edge was the method that Steve Johnson adopted, and it payed off when he put 76.0.0 of carp on the scales.
In third place was Scott Miller, who had carp up to 12lb on pellet, ending up with 64.14.0.
Wallingford Jolly Anglers were on the Oxford Reach of the Thames for their Adrian Payne Pairs match where nine anglers took part.
Phil Ansell led the field home with four bream, plus some roach in the last hour, all taken on the groundbait feeder and maggot.
Also on the feeder and maggot was Steve Gray, who had a couple of slabs, plus bits, for a second-placed 18.10.0.
Fishing the stick float with maggot in just a foot of water, Lee Edmunds caught 10.8.0 of roach.
Sutton Courtenay fished their J Mullins/R Croucher Memorial on the Otneys where the 16 anglers found the river looking perfect with a nice flow and the colour gradually dropping out of it.
Pegged in the top field, John Percival put in some groundbait laced with chopped worm and then fished the pole with worm on the hook to land 22.6.0 of bream for first prize.
Using the groundbait feeder and red maggot, Dave Thomas took second place with 11.8.0 of skimmers, while Steve Wheatley weighed in 11.4.0 of skimmers on worm for third.
Nine members of Witney AS fished the Thames at Northmoor which was pushing through with plenty of colour, but for some reason the fish did not respond.
Fishing a slack with a maggot-feeder, the clear winner with 11.2.0 was Dave Williams, who had a couple of decent chub, plus some roach and perch.
In second place with 4.13.0 was Martin Avons, who fished the pole and bronze maggot to catch some roach, perch and skimmers. Third was Phil Weston with 3.13.0.
With the Cherwell well up, the Oxford Bus AC pegged the backwater on of their stretch down 'The High', where Dennis Butler finished top with a net of perch on red maggot and the feeder for 6.6.0.
Alan Bond had some nice roach in his second-placed 5.11.0, followed by Pete Clarke with 5.4.0 of roach.
