FA Trophy: Banbury United have suffered a blow after boss Kevin Brock reluctantly agreed to release their former Wycombe striker Jermaine McSporran after just five games.

McSporran was brought in as cover for the injured Andy Baird, but when the latter made a quicker than expected return, it became impossible to keep him.

"It is a blow to lose someone of his quality," said Brock, whose side travel to Southern League Division 1 South & West leaders Taunton Town in tomorrow's FA Trophy first qualifying round.

"Jermaine did well for us and we would have liked to have kept him, but we have got two very good strikers (Howard Forinton is the other) and we couldn't afford another one. We have to be sensible here."

Matty Hayward (virus) is doubtful, though Ady Fuller and Forinton return after hamstring and calf injuries respectively.

Brock, who has got the lowdown on Taunton from Stuart Peace, whose Didcot side played there earlier in the season, added: "They are a physical side, who like to bomb forward, so it's going to be a difficult game."

Didcot Town will be without their on-loan Oxford United centre back Andrew Gunn at Thatcham Town after the U's refused permission for him to play.

"It's a blow for us as Dave Green is still a week away from playing," said manager Peace, whose side won 4-2 at Lymington in midweek.

"But Oxford, who are the favourites to win it, don't want him cup-tied. It's a shame because he has done well for us."

Peace added: "We played really well against Lymington, so hopefully that will stand us in good stead.

"It's all about getting through a couple of rounds to get some money into the club."

Goalkeeper Carl Wilkins is set to sit it out when Oxford City travel to Winchester City after he suffered ankle ligament damage against Paulton Rovers on Tuesday. Lee Farrow is on stand-by.

Ray Spence is suspended, though Lee Rendell is back after illness.

Abingdon United will be looking to make it third time lucky when they host Bracknell Town at Northcourt Road.

Abingdon, whose display against Bromsgrove won them the Team of the Round award, have drawn against the Berkshire outfit twice already this season.

Chris Hawtin is back from university, though Nathan Woodley and Luke Holden are sidelined.
