REPORTS linking Oxford United to Ryan Cresswell are wide of the mark, the Oxford Mail understands.
Rotherham United boss Steve Evans revealed this week the transfer-listed defender had been given permission to speak to three clubs.
The U’s, along with Southend United and AFC Wimbledon, were named in the Yorkshire media as the interested trio.
But a source at United said no approach had been made for the 24-year-old, who played under United boss Chris Wilder at Halifax Town and Bury.
A centre back is not on United’s summer wish-list, with Jake Wright, Michael Duberry and Harry Worley in the squad as specialists, while Andy Whing was also used in the heart of defence on numerous occasions last season.
Wilder said earlier this week that strengthening the midfield was his priority, with two players considering offers to join the U’s before they resume pre-season training.
