Banbury suffered a four-wicket defeat at Welwyn Garden City in Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 1 on Saturday.

Missing Craig Haupt, who was serving the first of a two-game ban, Banbury struggled with the bat and were bowled out for 183 in the 60th over.

That score was due largely to a 107-run seventh-wicket partnership between Ashley Blanchard, who was unbeaten on 73, and Jonny Cater, who hit 63.

They saved their side after a top-order collapse saw them deep in trouble at 40-6 – Nathan Hawkes (20) was the only other batsman to reach double figures.

However, the score never looked enough as the hosts passed their target in the 49th over.
