Oxfordshire batsman Craig Haupt misses Banbury’s trip to Welwyn Garden City in Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 1 tomorrow after picking up a two-game ban for dissent.

The powerful left-hander received the punishment following an argument with umpire Kevin Beaumont after the drawn derby game at home to Oxford last Saturday.

Haupt remonstrated with the official about his lbw decision, and although acting skipper Jimmy Phillips said the player subsequently apologised, he was reported to the league and has been suspended.

Phillips said: “Derby matches can bring out the best and worst in people, and they normally bring out the best in Craig.

“If you look at his record against Oxford it is exceptional, but he knows what he did against Oxford on Saturday was wrong.

“We accept that Craig knows he was in the wrong and it is just one of those things, and he apologises and now he has got to take his punishment, which he accepts.

“Craig and Kevin have known each other for years. It is not a personal issue. It was just related to things on the field.

“Craig went in and apologised and the pair had a beer aftwerwards, but he had obviously pushed it too far.”

Anish Desai comes into the side for Haupt, who will also miss next week’s trip to Harpenden.

Paceman Stuart Hole has been ruled out of Oxford’s clash with Harpenden at Roman Way after suffering a back spasm while bowling against Banbury.

Skipper Ian Crosby, who was encouraged by his struggling side’s performance last week, said: “Obviously it’s a blow missing Holey. He is a quality player, but we have not had him all season.

“We will just have to assess it week by week, and hope to get him back for Tring next week.”

Fellow opening bowler Stefan Van Dyk is unavailable, but Brad Sutherland comes back into the side after the birth of his first child.

John Barrett and Ian Evans are vying for the final place in the 11 as Oxford will make a late decision on whether to go for an extra batsman or bowler.

Right-arm seamer Joe Cockroft makes his Home Counties debut as Shipton-under-Wychwood visit Slough in Division 2 West.

Steve Bates and Christian Brain are back, with Johnny Gurney and Craig Wood away, while Liam Hare returns to the 2nd XI.

Thame Town, who were denied by the rain with victory in sight against Shipton last week, are unchanged for the clash with Harefield at Church Meadow.

Aston Rowant are at home to Gerrards Cross.
