BROTHERS Richard and Peter Chambers were delighted with their performances at the World Cup regatta in Munich and aim for a repeat at the forthcoming London Olympics.

In the last competitive meet before the 2012 Games, the Chambers brothers, from Oxford Brookes, Chris Bartley and Rob Williams won gold in the men’s lightweight Four.

“We may not look pretty, but we are strong” said elder brother Richard.

Peter, who has been out injured, added: “I only got back in the boat a week ago, so I’m really chuffed.”

Oxford’s Andy Triggs Hodge, the stroke of the coxless four, said there were many positives despite their defeat against Australia, which meant they had to settle for the silver medal.

Triggs Hodge added: “We found a different rhythm and that was a lot better.

“I think we have learnt a lot and we can take that away to training camp in the next six weeks.”

Frances Houghton, from Wheatley, found herself back with Henley’s Debbie Flood in the women’s quad scull after some reshuffling and they secured a bronze.

Houghton said: “It is really encouraging and good to be back on the podium.”

Meanwhile, Wallingford’s Zac Purchase says he and partner Mark Hunter can bounce back after the reigning men’s lightweight double sculls world champions finished sixth in their final.

Purchase added: “We are becoming quite the specialists at turning around disappointing performances.

“And that turnaround already started after Lucerne when put in some pretty big changes in how we are training to make sure that we are thinking about the long game.”

Oxfordshire 17-year-olds Louis Allen, from East Hagbourne, and George Barnicoat (North Leigh) will represent Great Britain at the Copenhagen Kayak Marathon World Cup this weekend.

The K2 duo, who are tipped to get a medal, with Allen and Barnicoat finishing second and third respectively at the Ghent Blaaamresen Marathon, Belgium, in March.
