A brilliant spell by Steve Kelly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for Oxfordshire in their ECB 50-Plus County Championship match against Wales at Panteg.
The Witney Mills slow bowler took three wickets in four balls of the penultimate over to earn Oxon a dramatic- ten-run success – their first win in the competition after two defeats.
Kelly finished with 5-23 from 8.4 overs, Having made 194-8 from their 45 overs, Oxon seemed to be heading for certain defeat as Wales progressed to 158-2 from 37 overs.
But the visitors held their nerve better than the Welsh batsmen, who panicked in sight of victory.
Earlier, the Oxon total had been built on a fourth-wicket stand of 110 between Alastair Thomas and Adrian Manger.
Thomas, the former Oxford all-rounder who now plays for Thame 2nd, scored 67 on his Over 50s debut, striking six fours and a six.
The result keeps alive Oxon's hopes of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the competition.
