Skip Caroline Campion’s 20-shot victory proved crucial as Oxfordshire Ladies edged past Middlesex 115-111 in their opening Johns Trophy game at South Oxford.

Campion’s four of Ann Spearman, Annie Gilkes and Donna Knight triumphed 30-10 to help Oxon take the points 14-8 in the Group 2B South encounter.

They were one of only two winning Oxon rinks as Middlesex won on the other four.

Katherine Hawes’s side of Pat Rist, Hazel Woodward and Stella Amos provided the other success with a 22-11 victory.

Oxfordshire saw their lead of more than 20 shots halved in the second half of the game.

And by the last end, played by Pat Ostler’s rink, Oxon led by just two.

But Ostler’s four held their nerve to pick up two shots to clinch victory.

Oxon bid to follow up the success when they face group leaders Surrey at Shiplake on Saturday.

Their opponents top the table after resounding wins over Middlesex and Bucks.

Oxfordshire 115 (14pts), Middlesex 111 (8) (Oxon skips first): P Ostler 15, J White 23; K Hawes 22, K Stockley 11; C Campion 30, M Lawford 10; J Berry 15, M Simpson 20; G Gilkes 19, A Halliday 26; S Lacey 14, J Staples 21.
