Paul White put on an exhibition of spin, flight and guile to take 6-28 and so help Abingdon Vale return to winning ways at the expense of Long Marston.

In the process the left-armer claimed his 500th wicket in the Cherwell League, as only Andy Pierce’s painstaking 36 averted a disaster for an under-strength Marston.

Vale’s openers James Boon (37) and Akheam Fox (31) then set up an easy seven-wicket win, achieved with almost 15 overs to spare.

Morning leaders Tiddington suffered their first defeat after collapsing to 100 all out at Challow & Childrey.

Only Nathan Brooks (39) put up much resistance as Conor Taylor (4-55) and Mark Middleton (3-15) ran riot.

Brooks had taken 4-59 and Phil Pykett 3-51 before tea, but Alex Lynch (60) and Alex Kill (59) batted well to steer the hosts to 199-9.

Tiddington are replaced at the top by Twyford, who romped to a 55-run home win over Aston Rowant 2nd.

Tanveer Nadeem (43) and Stafford Sansome (33) were the mainstays of the hosts’ 187-8, while Chris Eaton led the way for the visitors by taking 5-69.

But he was outshone by Tokeer Hussain, who captured 5-35 as Rowant were rolled over for 132.

Sandford St Martin are in for a long season after suffering yet another defeat, this time by six wickets at Wolverton Town.

Ian Reynolds top-scored with 57 in Sandford’s 160 all out, while Atif Akhlaq took 4-13 and Hakim Khan claimed 3-30.

Sean Potter (54) then got Town’s reply going before Aky Hussain finished the job with an unbeaten 62.
