SPINNERS Luke Ryan and Jimmy Phillips bowled Banbury to a thrilling eight-run victory at Henley in Division 1 of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League.
Stand-in captain Jimmy Phillips’s decision to bat first after winning the toss looked like it had backfired as Banbury were bowled out for just 102 with Tahir Afridi taking 6-34 and Dieter Klein 4-37.
But left-arm spinner Ryan (5-29) and off-spinner Phillips (4-30) turned the game Banbury’s way by sending Henley crashing to 94 all out.
Henley looked poised for victory after reaching 56-1.
But then they lost opener Michael Roberts for 33, and their last nine wickets fell for just 38 as Ryan and Phillips worked their magic.
Earlier, Banbury’s collapse had been equally dramatic after openers Lloyd Sabin and Ian Tew put on 52.
They then lost ten wickets for 50, with Craig Haupt the only other batsman to make double figures as the rest of the order folded.
