Tim Henman continued his recent stunning form with a shock win over Spain's 14th seed David Ferrer in the Madrid Masters last night.
Ferrer is the second Spaniard the Oxfordshire star has beaten in as many days as he moves into the third round.
The 32-year-old, a wild card, won a topsy-turvy encounter against the World No 15 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, once again producing periods of world-class attacking tennis.
It takes the World No 41 another step closer to his end-of-year goal of a top 32 ranking before the Australian Open.
Henman appeared to be struggling with a right leg injury through the third set.
However, the British No 2 admitted afterwards that it was a minor niggle that hadn't hampered his performance.
"I just jogged my knee on a volley," he said. "I think it's fine."
He now plays Julien Benneteau of France or fourth-seeded Argentine David Nalbandian tomorrow for a place in the last eight.
