A delighted Jim Bentley felt his Morecambe side were worthy winners as they ended a miserable run against Oxford United on Saturday.
The Shrimps had never beaten the U’s in their six meetings, failing to score in the last five games.
But Craig Curran’s early goal broke their barren run and Stewart Drummond’s header gave them a 2-1 victory.
Bentley said: “I’m very happy, I’ve been involved in a couple of games against Oxford and you always know what you’re going to get, certainly coming here.
“They’re a big club at this level with good fans who really get behind the team.
“We watched them at Accrington the other day and went with a slightly different system to what we’re used to and I thought we caused them problems.”
The Morecambe boss was thrilled with the all-round performance from his players and believed it justified taking all three points back to Lancashire.
He said: “We knew we were going to come under long spells of pressure, which we did.
“But we defended exceptionally and when big Baz (Barry Roche) in goal was called upon he made one or two saves.
“But we did well at the other end with a couple of set play routines and scored two good goals and overall it was a good game, and if I’m honest maybe we shaded it and deserved the win.”
