Tiredness was not a factor in Oxford United’s defeat at home to Morecambe on Saturday, according to Andy Whing.
The U’s looked out-of-sorts throughout the afternoon as they went down 2-1 against the mid-table Shrimps.
Whing was once again asked to deputise at centre back after both Harry Worley and veteran Michael Duberry failed late fitness tests.
The 27-year-old was frustrated with the result, particularly with the way the U’s failed to find another gear after Scott Rendell’s early equaliser.
One of the explanations for the performance was mental and physical tiredness, but Whing dismissed the suggestion.
“We’ve set the standards in the last few weeks, so it was very disappointing,” he said.
“To get a goal back so quickly, especially at home, you think ‘let’s kick on now’, but we didn’t hit the heights we have done in recent weeks.
“I don’t know if it was tiredness or what, I don’t think it was, we just didn’t turn up on the day.
“It’s not like us and I think it’s probably one of the worst performances of the season, especially here.”
