Eve Johnson Houghton is considering the next plan of attack with The Cheka following his Listed Race win at Doncaster on Saturday.
Johnson Houghton, who trains the six-year-old at Blewbury, near Didcot, was delighted to see him strike on his first attempt at six furlongs in the New William Hill iPhone App Cammidge Trophy.
Neil Callan was aboard as the 12-1 chance posted a three-quarters of a length verdict from last year’s winner, Jimmy Styles.
Johnson Houghton and owners comedian Mel Smith and Anthony Pye-Jeary, also have the option to go back over seven furlongs, with the Duke of York Stakes on the Knavesmire or Ascot’s Victoria Cup the most likely targets for his next outing.
“I was delighted to see him go and do it over six furlongs as it obviously opens up a lot more avenues for us,” said the trainer. “We could easily go to the Duke Of York Stakes next, but I’m interested to see what the handicapper does to him.
“We could go to the Victoria Cup, where he would obviously have to carry top-weight, but I don’t think that would bother him.”
Meanwhile, Brae Hill went one better than last year by springing a 25-1 shock in the William Hill Lincoln for trainer Richard Fahey and jockey Tony Hamilton.
