Asa Hall is mystified at the reasons behind the best goalscoring streak of his career, after scoring as many goals in March as in the previous 18 months at Oxford United.
The 25-year-old hit both goals in United’s 2-0 win at Accrington Stanley night as Chris Wilder’s side moved into npower League Two’s top six.
It continued an incredible run for the midfielder, who now has five goals in his last seven games since opening the scoring in the 2-0 derby win against Swindon Town earlier this month.
The brace at Accrington made it Hall’s most prolific spell in seven seasons as a professional and equalled the goal haul from his first 68 appearances for the club.
Hall’s goals have been key to keeping United’s promotion challenge on track, but he is at a loss to explain the source of his productive spell in front of goal.
“It’s a great run and hopefully it continues,” he said.
“I’ve never had a run this good before, let’s see how far it can go.
“I’m not doing anything differently at all, I haven’t got any superstitions, it’s just nice to be in this sort of form and the lads are doing great.”
Hall signed for the U’s from Luton Town in 2010 with a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder, but it has taken time for him to live up to it.
The former England under 20 international has not been a regular starter at times this season and is pleased to be fulfilling his potential.
He said: “It’s true I hadn’t scored as many as I wanted, but it’s coming.
“Usually when I get one I get a few, but five goals in seven games is a great return.
“It’s excellent, we’ve been pushing really hard and to see us finally move up in the table is good.
“We’re looking up, but we’ve got to stay focused and go again on Saturday.”
At the very least, the goals should help increase the bids on Hall’s eBay account, where he is selling a pair of his boots.
He said: “There’s been a few comments about that, so who knows?
“It’s just a spare pair I’ve got which I’m trying to get rid of, maybe these goals will help.”
